Fully certified manual lymphatic drainage and complete decongestive therapy.

Lymphedema affects lymphatic vessels, which are responsible for transporting protein-rich fluid (Lymphatic fluid) back into the circulatory system. When lymph vessels or lymph nodes are missing, impaired, damaged, removed or malformed, the fluid isn’t properly transported or filtered and an accumulation of Lymphatic fluid occurs. This results in the condition known as Lymphedema.

There are two types of Lymphedema: Primary Lymphedema and Secondary Lymphedema.

Others may have malformations within their lymphatic systems. This can occur without obvious cause at different stages in life (Primary Lymphedema).

To date, there is no known cure for lymphedema. However, it’s a condition that can be managed and treated effectively with CDT (Complete Decongestive Therapy) by a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT).
CDT is the worldwide Gold Standard for Lymphedema management.

Complete Decongestive Therapy consists of a
4-part treatment:

1: Skin Care
Patients suffering from Lymphedema are susceptible to infections of the skin and nails.

2: Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a set of techniques that help to move lymphatic fluid from the affected area and into an intact area. This fluid is then introduced back into the circulatory system via intact Lymph nodes and vessels.

3: Compression Therapy
Proper compression therapy greatly enhances the MLD treatments. It applies pressure from the outside and allows fluid to flow back into the lymph vessels.
The therapy uses short stretch compression bandages and transitions into compression garments which can be off the shelf or custom made.

4: Decongestive Exercises
The goal of the exercise program is to improve lymph circulation and to maximize functional mobility. Exercises are performed at least twice a day for 10-15 minutes wearing the compression bandages.
